The Stadsdriehoek, where Rotterdam once originated, is now home to quaint boutiques and some highlights of contemporary architecture.
This is your district if you like architecture and a good shopping session. The Stadsdriehoek is the medieval heart of Rotterdam, bounded at the time by the triangle of Coolsingel, Goudsesingel and the former river Maas. This is where the foundation for a metropolis was laid with the building of a dam. You can no longer see any of that, as the 1940 bombing swept away almost everything. Fortunately, the Rotterdammers lived up to their motto 'Stronger through struggle' and rebuilt the city in no time. The neighbourhood is now home to numerous architectural gems, such as the Cube Houses, the Market Hall and the Timmerhuis.
