The best view you can have of Porto is from Gaia!
If you come for conviviality and tasting delicious port, this is your district. On the south bank of the Douro you will find Vila Nova de Gaia; popularly called Gaia for short. Here is the quay where the wine merchants built their warehouses and cellars. The bishop at the time charged high tolls for trade from Porto, and in Gaia it was avoidable. Actually, most port was exported straight from the Douro Valley via Gaia to other countries - and never reached Porto at all. Taste deliciously of ruby, tawny and vintage here. From Jardim do Morro, you have a puffy view of the city.
