This fine working-class neighbourhood full of shops and with a cosy market is a nice place to mingle with the locals.
Sant'Ambrogio is the district for you if you want to explore Florence from a neighbourhood that tourists haven't really found yet. The working-class district is packed with quaint shops, restaurants and bars. In the morning, it is a bustle around the Mercato di Sant'Ambrogio, while in the afternoon and evening, it is cosy thanks to the young people who come to shop, eat or go out. Be sure to visit the old Le Murate prison complex for a drink. If you are a fan of antiques and vintage, visit the typical Mercato delle Pulci (flea market) on the Largo Pietro Annigoni.
